GPS Location

SafetyLine has the ability to support GPS location technology. Some devices support GPS technology and the ability to transmit location information. SafetyLine users with these such devices will have their GPS location logged and stored on each system event, such as a Check-In or Panic emergency.

Some SafetyLine devices also have the ability to send ‘GPS breadcrumbs’ on regular time intervals, so as to create a location path history for a user, and automatic regular GPS location updates.

GPS information is available to Monitors via the secured web interface in order the help locate staff in cases of emergency. It is also fully logged and available in user history and reports.

A note on GPS for Work Alone Monitoring.

It should be made clear that GPS tracking and Work Alone monitoring are not the same topic. In fact, SafetyLine is very clear to define that it is not a tracking solution with more dedicated tracking features, but instead uses GPS location simply as a tool to help provide a better work alone safety monitoring solution. This is done to find an excellent balance between privacy concerns and effective safety monitoring – in fact, most users are happy to have their locations logged by SafetyLine because it is for safety.

  • Is GPS location a requirement for a good Work Alone solution?
NO. GPS can be a useful tool to help locate staff in distress, but it is not required for service. This means that with SafetyLine, you can still get a compliant and effective solution without GPS enabled devices. In fact, the location information in a voice message can be just as effective at locating a distressed person.
  • Does SafetyLine recommend GPS for Work Alone?
YES. The  addition of GPS location technology is an excellent feature add on, and customers should consider procuring supporting devices if budget allows.
  • I have a GPS tracking solution for my staff, doesn’t this make me work alone regulation compliant?
NO. While the regulations are different in each Province, the core of each is to require constant checking/reporting with your staff. This is not achieved by knowing their location alone. A monitoring solution is still required.
