Q&A With a SafetyLine Customer: Peterborough, Wastewater Treatment Plant

Wastewater treatment plant supervisor Daryl Stevenson manages 20+ water employees who sometimes work alone. To address the safety issues of working alone, Stevenson and his team started to use SafetyLine, finding value in features such as the customizable check-in intervals and its easy integration onto existing devices. We spoke to Stevenson from his office in Peterborough about why they chose SafetyLine amongst other options and why they continue to use it to protect their employees working alone. (They have a minimum of one-hour check-in intervals for their lone workers.)

What sparked your decision to onboard Safetyline to help protect your water workers?

“Before using SafetyLine we used a call center, but we checked in every hour. So, if something happened 10 minutes after you called in, it would be a minimum of 50 minutes before anyone even started to check on you. Knowing what kind of medical distress someone could be in that short period, I immediately started looking for another solution.”

What was the reason for selecting SafetyLine?

“We trialed different products but found SafetyLine the easiest to use. We liked the features: the alarm and the customization ability to check in times to every 15 minutes if we were to encounter a potentially dangerous situation – a part most of the other three competitors did not have. “

What other features did our competitors have that SafetyLine did not have?

“There was a lot of discussion about some other companies with dedicated devices like a pendant that you would wear around your neck. But the last thing you want is someone with multiple devices on them. Our phones are such incredible technology, so why not have it all in one?”

With employees working around the clock to keep the wastewater treatment plant running, Stevenson says that SafetyLine gives him invaluable comfort knowing that these people are protected, no matter what time it is.

“There is always someone working 24/7, and knowing that person was safe, gave me peace of mind,” he says about the reliable safety monitoring. “They could check in on multiple devices, such as their desktop app, and even call in. We love all the different features on it.”

The team liked that SafetyLine could be used on their phones, not requiring them to purchase and carry an additional device. As a supervisor, Stevenson has experienced significant value in checking on the team members’ statuses and whether they are ok.
