Organizations in Yukon have a legal duty to check the well-being of their workers who face significant risk of injury or fatality or may not be able to obtain help in the event of a work incident or emergency.
In Yukon, employers have a general legal duty under the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Act to make reasonable efforts to check the well-being of workers who face a significant risk of injury or death or who may be unable to secure assistance in the event of an injury or other emergency. While Yukon does not have a standalone regulation specifically governing working alone, employers must assess the circumstances and take reasonable steps to protect workers who may be unable to obtain help.

Employer Responsibility
Yukon does not have a standalone regulation dedicated specifically to working alone. However, the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Act establishes a direct employer responsibility to check on workers in situations where they may be unable to obtain assistance.
Section 27 — Duties of Employers
Under section 27(2)(d), an employer must:
“make reasonable efforts to check the well-being of a worker”
in situations where the worker:
Is employed under conditions that present a significant hazard of injury or death; or
Might not be able to secure assistance in the event of injury or other misfortune.
Employers must also comply with the applicable requirements of the Act and regulations.
