Frequently Asked Questions about location tracking
How does the global positioning system (GPS) work?
GPS satellites orbit the earth twice a day, transmitting signals and parameters that are used by the GPS device to determine the worker’s location.
SafetyLine users are identified on the app’s map with a shaded circle around their current working location. The size of this circle depends on the signal strength and other factors such as the number of cell towers in the area; the smaller circle, the more concentrated and more accurate it is.
Is the information collected by GPS location tracking private and secure?
When monitored by SafetyLine, any personal information and data collected will be secure and private. Fully encrypted and firewalled servers protect all employee information, and the employer must fully disclose how the information will be used.
Like the safety of its users, the privacy of these people is a top priority for SafetyLine. All data gathered will be used strictly to improve the safety and well-being of lone workers using the work safety solution.
Is the location monitored during non-work hours?
No, once the lone worker has check-out of SafetyLine, their location will not be monitored. In addition to location, SafetyLine will not monitor any activities outside of work and after employment hours.
How does SafetyLine lone worker location tracking work?
SafetyLine will provide an update of the worker’s location every time they check-in or signal an emergency.
On certain devices, GPS breadcrumbs can be activated, displaying the worker’s “trail” when mobile. SafetyLine only logs GPS data when the worker is checked-in and on the clock – it turns off when their shift ends.
In addition to the accurate location map, SafetyLine’s messaging and communication capabilities help lone workers provide valuable context and additional details that could be important for successful emergency response. SafetyLine addresses the big picture of a worker’s safety, considering all pertinent details that could help the worker when needed.
